Method
Soak the cucumbers1 in cold water for 2 hours, wash them, and trim the ends.
Wash a 1 l jar and scald it with boiling water. Put 20 g dill3, 10 g garlic2, peppercorns, and a bay leaf on the bottom.
Pack the cucumbers1 tightly upright so they do not float.
Boil 600 ml water with 30 g salt4 and 5 g sugar, and cook for 1 minute. Cool the brine to 70 °C.
Pour the warm brine over the cucumbers1 to the rim, cover loosely with a lid, and leave at room temperature for 8–12 hours.
In the morning, close the jar with a lid and refrigerate. Store for up to 7 days.
