Method
Wash the chicken1 and cut into 2 cm cubes, salt it, and prepare the paprika and garlic.
Toss the chicken1 with paprika and garlic until evenly distributed.
Dip the chicken1 cubes in the beaten egg until fully coated.
Coat the chicken1 in breadcrumbs to form an even thin crust.
Preheat the air fryer to 200°C and select a medium-sized basket so the cubes fit in one layer without crowding.
Arrange the cubes in a single layer in the basket, cook on high heat for 10 minutes, shake the basket halfway through to even out the crust, and cook until golden.
Combine yogurt and ketchup until smooth.
Serve the chicken1 popcorn with the sauce on the side; garnish with greens if desired.
Tips
- Why it works
- Salt the chicken before breading so the crust sticks better and doesn’t slide off during cooking. Use 200°C to crisp the coating without steaming the meat inside.
- Substitutions
- Replace yogurt with sour cream (40g) for a thicker sauce. Use cornflakes (30g) instead of breadcrumbs for a lighter, crunchier texture.
- Common mistakes
- Overcrowding the basket makes the chicken steam instead of crisp. Notice by soggy, uneven browning and pale centers after 10 minutes.
- Storing and reheating
- Eat fresh or within 1 day. Reheat in the air fryer at 180°C for 3–4 minutes until crisp again. Freeze breaded pieces before frying for up to 1 month.
- Serve with
- Pair with apple slices for a sweet contrast or cucumber sticks for a crunchy, fresh side. Serve at kids’ playdates or as a quick after-school snack.
