Baked Apple with Cottage Cheese
A soft baked apple with a gentle cottage cheese filling. The sweetness comes from the apple itself, and both the skin and flesh turn very tender.

Ingredients
- 1 Apples≈ $3.50 per kg 120 g
- 2 Soft quarkpack 200 g ≈ $2.50 40 g
- 3 Raisinspack 200 g ≈ $2.40 5 g
Grey rows are pantry staples: salt, oil, spices. They are not counted in the serving price.
Method
Preheat the oven to 180 °C. Cover the raisins3 with hot water and soak for 10 minutes, then drain and chop finely (do not give whole raisins to a toddler). If making this without raisins, skip this step.
Wash the apple1 and slice off the top to make a little lid. Carefully remove the core and seeds, leaving the base and walls about 1 cm thick.
Mix the cottage cheese with the chopped raisins3 until smooth. Fill the apple1 with the mixture and cover with the lid.
Set the apple1 in a baking dish and pour 2–3 tablespoons of water into the bottom. Bake for 25–30 minutes at 180 °C, until the apple is soft2 and a knife slides in without resistance.
Let cool until warm, about 10 minutes. If the skin is tough, peel it off. Cut the apple1 into small pieces or mash it with a fork together with the filling.
Tips
- Why it works
- Leave the bottom and walls about 1 cm thick and pour water into the dish: the apple bakes in steam, doesn't burst or stick to the dish, and the skin softens.
- Substitutions
- Raisins can be left out entirely, since the apple is sweet enough. Instead of cottage cheese, use thick plain yogurt, 40 g, and the filling will be less dense.
- Common mistakes
- The apple falls apart if the walls are too thin or it is overbaked. Watch the skin: if it is very wrinkled and cracks appear, take the apple out, as the flesh is already done.
- Storing and reheating
- Keep in the fridge for 1 day. Reheat in the microwave for 20-30 seconds and stir so no hot spots remain. Don't freeze, as the apple turns watery.
- Serve with
- Serve warm as an afternoon snack, plain. A glass of water or weak unsweetened tea goes well with it.
In short
- A child's portion for ages 1–3; suitable from 12 months. For younger kids, halve it and purée.
