A thick, sweet smoothie with a mild banana and berry flavor. The cottage cheese and kefir make it filling, and it is easy to drink quickly through a straw or from a cup.

Grey rows are pantry staples: salt, oil, spices. They are not counted in the serving price.
Method
Thaw the berries in the microwave for 30–40 seconds at medium power, or leave them in a bowl for 15 minutes. Drain off any excess liquid.
Peel the banana1 and cut into rounds.
Put the banana1, cottage cheese and berries in a blender jar and pour in the kefir4. Blend for 1 minute, until completely smooth.
If any berry seeds remain in the smoothie, strain it through a fine sieve. If it is too thick, add 1–2 tablespoons of boiled water and blend again.
Pour into a cup and serve right away. Do not save any leftovers.
Tips
- Why it works
- Thaw frozen berries first and drain the juice: the smoothie won't be icy or too thin, and the cold mixture won't irritate your toddler's throat.
- Substitutions
- Replace kefir with plain yogurt without additives in the same amount. Cottage cheese can be replaced with the same amount of yogurt, and the smoothie will be thinner.
- Common mistakes
- Poorly blended berry seeds crunch between the teeth when drinking. Check by running a spoon along the side of the glass, and strain through a sieve.
- Storing and reheating
- Drink right away: after 20-30 minutes the banana darkens, the smoothie separates, and the kefir base shouldn't sit in the warmth. Don't store or reheat.
- Serve with
- Serve as an afternoon snack with a piece of soft rusk or a plain biscuit, if your toddler is still hungry.
In short
- A child's portion for ages 1–3; suitable from 12 months. For younger kids, halve it and purée.
